Before diving into the intricacies of each level, let's cover the fundamental mechanics of Superliminal. Firstly, you're safe here—no harm can come to you. Even if a giant block falls on your head, you'll bounce back, as this is all happening within your dream.
Start by familiarizing yourself with the practice room. Experiment with picking up objects and manipulating their size. When you release an object near the floor or wall, it becomes smaller. Conversely, if you release it further away, it grows larger. This technique can be repeated to adjust object sizes as needed. For instance, by holding a pawn over a desk from across the room, it will appear as large as a lamp when dropped. The game's core concept, as noted in the practice room, is that perception shapes reality. You can even make objects materialize by aligning them in your field of vision.
Mastering these mechanics will become second nature, preparing you for the challenges ahead. Now, let's explore each level of Superliminal.
Level 1 – Induction
This level introduces you to the core techniques you'll use to progress through Superliminal.
Puzzle 1
Begin by signing the contract if you wish, then proceed down the corridor to the next room.
Puzzle 2
Experiment with the pawns and other items on the table, then move through the door. You'll encounter a giant chess piece blocking your path. Lift it, look at the floor, and drop it to shrink it. Jump over the box and continue to the next area.
Puzzle 3
Locate the exit door in the far right corner, hidden behind two stacked blocks. Pick up the top block and drop it near the floor to make it smaller. Use the fallen chess piece to jump onto the smaller block, then exit through the door.
You'll encounter your first object-blocking door. You can pass through these if you're empty-handed, but carrying an object will block your way.
Puzzle 4
To keep the door open, place an object on the button, similar to the mechanics in Portal. Stand to the right of the button to see through the door when it opens. Place the cube on the button, and walk through the door.
Puzzle 5
Look into the previous room, pick up the cube, and then look at the ceiling in the current room. Drop the cube, pick it up, and repeat until it's large enough to act as a step to the corner door. Climb on it and proceed to the next room.
### Puzzle 6
Peek through the left window and grab the pawn chess piece. Then, look through the right window and place the piece on the button, using its shadow to align it correctly. Exit through the door.
Puzzle 7
This puzzle teaches object rotation, albeit only in one plane. Pick up the cheese, use the look-up-and-drop technique to enlarge it, and use it as a ramp to reach the doorway.
Puzzle 8
Grab the large block, hold it against the wall, and release it to shrink it. Repeat until it's small enough to place on the button beside the door.
Puzzle 9
Take the large block from the left side and drop it near the bottom of the wall to make it smaller. Look through the broken window and place the tiny block on the visible button. Alternatively, try dropping it on the slope to get it through the window.
Puzzle 10
The challenge here is to get the block over the wall into the next room. Some rooms have walls that don't reach the ceiling, so be observant. Pick up the block, stand in the back left corner, and raise it above the wall. Release it to let it fall into the other side. If it doesn't land on the button, place it there and exit.
### Puzzle 11
Lift the wonky exit sign and keep dropping it from the ceiling until it's enormous. Rotate it to touch both buttons simultaneously, release it, and then exit.
Puzzle 12
Ignore the button behind the door and look through the crack in the left wall panels to grab the cheese wedge. Enlarge and rotate it so the point presses against the leaning wall panel. Release it to knock down several panels, then climb over and continue to complete the level.
Level 2 – Optical
Assuming you've mastered resizing objects, we'll focus on navigating this level.
Puzzle 1
Move through the hotel to the fire exit door. Pick it up, set it aside, and continue. When you see a nighttime painting on your left, approach it to go upstairs. Reach the large room, remove an exit sign from the wall, enlarge it, and use it to climb over the far wall. Hop up the boxes and through the door.
Puzzle 2
Enter the room on your right and stand near the fold-out tables and projector. Align the cube-painted items to form a perfect cube, which will then materialize. Enlarge the checkered cube to stand on it and reach the corridor exit.
### Puzzle 3
Another cube puzzle. Stand behind the table marked with an X, look at the flowers, and walk backward until they align. Go to the opposite side and align the flowers on the newly-appeared table with the flower hole in the checkered cube to obtain it. Rotate the cube to reveal a set of stairs, enlarge it, and use it to exit the high door in the corridor.
Puzzle 4
Take the cube stairs with you and use them to reach the ledge on the left of the large room. Align the missing part of the fire exit door on one of the pillars to make it real. Without moving, 'open' it by clicking on it, then exit through this new doorway.
Puzzle 5
Head up the stairs to the room with spilled paint. Align the cube on the ceiling, pick it up, enlarge it, and use it to reach the upper level and the yellow gantry. On the gantry, align the green pipe with the stain to create a chess piece. Pick it up and exit through the hole it creates.
### Puzzle 6
Back in the hotel, look through the far skylight and pick up the Moon. Enlarge and rotate it until the tiny door on it is large enough to walk through. Enter the elevator to complete the level.
Level 3 – Cubism
Prepare to manipulate dice as you navigate an art gallery within your mind.
### Puzzle 1
Upon reaching the gallery, enter the Curator's Room on the right and grab the dice. Enlarge it to reach the ledge, and take it into the next room.
Puzzle 2
Enlarge the dice to reach the exit, then take the smaller dice from the alcove and use it as a stepping stone onto the larger dice. Go through the high door.
Puzzle 3
Simply pick up the new dice on the floor, jump down the hole it leaves, grab the air vent beneath the floor, and continue.
Puzzle 4
Use the dice as steps and keep moving forward.
### Puzzle 5
Upon entering, you'll see three dice attached to the floor. Lower the middle dice into the floor and pull the left-hand dice all the way to the right. Jump onto it and reach the ledge.
Puzzle 6
The dice will collapse, but pick up any side and use it as a ramp to reach the ledge and exit the door.
Puzzle 7
Position the dice near the ledge. It may explode, but if it forms steps, climb them. If not, pick up any piece, enlarge it, and place it on other chunks to ascend to the ledge.
Puzzle 8
Pick up the dice face opposite the stairs, toss it aside, and enter the cube. Shortly after, head to the elevator to complete the level.
Level 4 – Blackout
Despite the eerie atmosphere, there's no real danger here. Walk a bit before encountering puzzles.
Puzzle 1
The door ahead leads to a dead end, but if you walk to the right side of the room through the darkness, you'll find an exit at the back.
Puzzle 2
Further on, you'll encounter a room with a red pit. Approach the pit and look at the ground. To the left, you'll see a winding platform. Follow it across the pit to reach the next area.
Puzzle 3
When the door slams behind you, turn around and walk backward into the darkness. You'll see an arrow pointing to silhouetted stairs. Ascend them.
Puzzle 4
In the red room, it seems planks block your way. Look through the planks and take the exit sign. Enlarge it and use it to light your way past the boxes. Drop the sign before going through the door.
### Puzzle 5
In the storeroom, you can't take the red exit sign due to the object-blocking door. Instead, enlarge it to illuminate the room through the glass window. Climb the boxes to the high exit.
Finally, reach the IDEA generator, interact to turn it on, and go straight ahead to the elevator to complete the level.
Level 5 – Clone
This level introduces objects that spawn copies of themselves.
Puzzle 1
You'll find a big green button but no obvious object to pick up. Go back, take the door you removed, and place it on the button.
### Puzzle 2
In the Y-shaped corridor with fire doors at each end, clicking them spawns smaller doors. Go to the right of the doors and keep clicking to create a staircase of doors. Climb over the top of the wall and land behind the door.
Puzzle 3
Each click on the clock spawns another. Take the duplicates, enlarge them to create a staircase, and climb it.
Refer to the example above. You can use your device's button to make copies disappear.
Puzzle 4
The apple on the button keeps the door locked. Stand close to the apple, clone it, look at the ceiling, and drop a massive apple to knock the smaller one off. If you miss, use the right-click or equivalent to try again.
Puzzle 5
Your goal is to get an apple onto the green button. Climb the stairs, stand behind the button, and look down at the apple so the bottom half is hidden. Click to clone the apple onto the button.
Puzzle 6
Stand at the room's entrance and keep cloning the SomnaSculpt sign until you have enough to climb and jump up. Reach the top level, jump down the hole beneath the door, and navigate the corridors to the elevator to end the level.
Level 6 – Dollhouse
Instead of the usual route, enter the Relaxation Room. Navigate through the movie theater, turn right at the Suite G door, go through the office area, and drop down through the object-blocking door.
Puzzle 1
Pick up the dollhouse, enlarge it by looking up and dropping it until the window is above your head. Enter the house, go through the door ahead, and jump onto the suitcases and table to reach the other door.
Puzzle 2
Reach a room with a door atop Jenga blocks. Enlarge the small fan and place it to blow the blocks down, freeing the door. Go through it.
Puzzle 3
Click on the second window from the left, enlarge it, and walk through.
Puzzle 4
Enlarge the inflatable castle until you can walk through the door. Looking through the vent fan, place the castle on the top diving board. Go back through the door to reach the diving board and enter the door in front. If needed, go back to enlarge the castle further.
### Puzzle 5
You'll face two doors that lead to each other and a high door on the wall. Position the larger door close to the upper door, covering its bottom quarter. Squeeze through and enter. Then, place the smaller door on top of the first and enter through the keyhole.
### Puzzle 6
Instead of returning to normal size, grab the cardboard dollhouse off the chair, resize it on the ledge, and enter it. Take the elevator to complete the level.
Level 7 – Labyrinth
Start from the bed and enter the backrooms. Walk as the voice discusses the emergency protocol, returning to the bedroom.
Puzzle 1
Deal with the alarm clock loop by walking until it beeps, returning you to the bedroom multiple times. Continue until gravity shifts, then drop through the doorway into the catering area. Click the alarm to return to the bedroom, take the blue sky painting, and place it at the end of the blank hallway. Walk into the painting and sidestep left to reach a red hall where gravity pins you to the wall.
Puzzle 2
Inside the hall, click the grey door to reveal the exit and make it drop. Lift the fallen door to find a hole beneath it. Jump down and navigate to an orange hall.
Puzzle 3
In the orange hall, align the painted block on the right wall. As you back up, fall through the crack to reach the next area. Alternatively, run to the wall and drop down.
Puzzle 4
This is a trap room. Grab the spiral staircase, look up, and drop it to enlarge it, smashing through the floor to the room below. Climb down, move the junk near the elevator, and enter it. Turn around and exit through the door behind you. Follow the exit signs through the repeating hallway to the next area.
Puzzle 5
Place the dice on the left ledge after shrinking it. Turn around to see it on the top level of the pool. Use it to climb and exit through the door.
### Puzzle 6
If you place the chess piece on the button, it turns 2D. Instead, stand on the button, look through the door, and use the knight to hold it down.
Puzzle 7
Pick up the dice to change the room. Use it to climb to the bed level, drop the cube, and be transported to a dark corridor. Walk to the end wall, drop down, click the alarm clock, and navigate through elevators following arrows to a darkened hallway. Click the alarm clock and enter the elevator.
Puzzle 8
You seem to be outside, but the lampposts are 2D images. Walk up to each 'wall' to reveal a bedroom in the middle. Enter and click the alarm clock to complete the level.
Level 8 – Whitespace
You're nearing the end. Your first challenge is escaping the starting room.
Puzzle 1
There's no visible exit, so focus on the building model. Click the chunk left of "Jungles" and enlarge it to enter the door. Make it slightly larger, move it to obscure the far door, and enter. The bricked-up doorway will now be open, leading you through the model building's entrance. Shrink the model, walk toward the door, and the building will disappear. Keep walking until you fall, then pick up the black block and continue through the doorway. Walk through the filing cabinet shadow.
### Puzzle 2
Reach a hallway with open walls and white pillars. Walk through the window to a room you can't reach due to its height. Turn around, pick up the inverted window, and use it to climb through the far door. Walk behind the wall with the window, toward the containers and chimney, and flip the switch.
Puzzle 3
Walk toward the stairs but go through the white stair shape. Follow the black path until you fall and continue walking.
Puzzle 4
You'll be in a looping hallway with colored pillars. Walk through the white walls to find a door behind the red and blue ends. Reach the chessboard.
Puzzle 5
Don't step on the chessboard squares as you'll fall through them. Use the chess pieces from the table to cross. Place the white piece on a white square, cross to it, then pick up the black piece and place it on a black square. Repeat until you're across.
Puzzle 6
You can't go through the white door initially. Pick up the cube and drop it behind the white space to turn the door into a room. Grab the cheese wedge, enlarge it, and use it to reach the high door.
### Puzzle 7
Keep falling through the chequered holes and corridors. After passing through a door, turn around, click the black box to reveal an exit sign and a red pit. Jump into the pit to complete the level.
Level 9 – Retrospect
Activate the alarm clock to open the door. You'll receive an inspirational talk from Dr. Glenn Pierce and revisit sections of previous levels and new areas. You can move around, but the game will guide you to the next area.
