Monster Hunter Wilds Dev Capcom Is Trying to Tame Beastly PC Requirements

by Nicholas Feb 27,2025

With Monster Hunter Wilds' February 28th release approaching, Capcom is actively investigating ways to reduce the recommended GPU specifications.

This confirmation originates from the official German Monster Hunter X/Twitter account, which also announced Capcom's exploration of a dedicated PC benchmarking tool.

Currently, the recommended configuration for 30 FPS at 1080p includes an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, requiring a 720p internal resolution and upscaling via DLSS or FSR at the lowest graphics settings.

For 60 FPS at 1080p with upscaling and frame generation technologies, Capcom suggests an RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT. Note that only the RTX 4060 supports Nvidia Frame Generation; the 2070 Super and 6700 XT rely on FSR 3, which exhibited ghosting artifacts in the previous beta.

Targeting 60 FPS with frame generation isn't optimal; Digital Foundry recommends a minimum of 40 FPS for third-person games. Sub-60 FPS performance with upscaling can lead to noticeable latency and reduced responsiveness.

The open beta revealed performance struggles for players with lower-end hardware, even mid-range cards like the RTX 3060, particularly a low-LOD bug impacting texture detail.

Monster Hunter Wilds utilizes Capcom's RE Engine, previously featured in titles like Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter Rise, and Street Fighter 6, generally boasting strong performance. However, the engine's performance in larger open-world games with numerous NPCs and enemies (like the anticipated Dragon's Dogma 2) has raised concerns. Capcom's efforts to lower GPU requirements are crucial for the PC version's success.
