The Witcher 4 will surprise with realistic NPCs. “Each character will live their own story”
CD Projekt Red is setting a new standard for NPC development in The Witcher 4. Following criticism of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3's character depth, the studio aims to create a truly immersive world where every non-playable character (NPC) feels alive.
Game director Sebastian Kalemba explained their new approach: "Every NPC should look like they are living their own life with their own story."
This commitment is evident in the first trailer, showcasing the village of Stromford. Villagers adhere to unique superstitions, worshipping a forest deity. A scene depicts a girl praying in the forest until Ciri's arrival.
Kalemba emphasized the pursuit of realism: "We aim to make NPCs as realistic as possible – from appearance to facial expressions and behavior. This will create an even deeper immersion."
The developers plan to imbue each village and character with distinct traits and narratives, reflecting the cultural nuances of isolated communities.
The Witcher 4's 2025 release date has fans anticipating further details on this revolutionary approach to world and character building.
