Bloodborne PSX Demake Pulled; Official Remake Rumored

by Benjamin Feb 22,2025

Sony's copyright claims against Bloodborne fan projects are intensifying. Following last week's takedown of the popular Bloodborne 60fps mod by Lance McDonald, Lilith Walther, creator of the impressive Bloodborne PSX demake, reported a copyright claim on a YouTube video showcasing her work. The claim originated from MarkScan Enforcement, a company confirmed by McDonald to be acting on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment – the same entity responsible for the DMCA takedown of his 60fps mod.

This aggressive action has sparked speculation, with McDonald suggesting a "copium theory" that Sony is clearing the way for an official 60fps remake or remaster by removing fan-made content that might clash with future trademarks. He points to the need for Sony to "clean up" search results for terms like "Bloodborne 60fps" and "Bloodborne remake" before filing any trademark requests.

The situation highlights the ongoing frustration surrounding Bloodborne's lack of official updates or ports to newer platforms. While fans have achieved remarkable feats, such as achieving near-remaster quality via PS4 emulation (as highlighted by Digital Foundry), Sony's actions suggest a reluctance to engage with the community's efforts.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida offered his perspective, theorizing that Hidetaka Miyazaki's deep personal attachment to Bloodborne and his desire for creative control prevent any official remaster or sequel from happening. Yoshida emphasized this was merely his personal theory and not an official statement.

Despite Miyazaki's previous acknowledgment that Bloodborne would benefit from a release on modern hardware, the game remains dormant almost a decade after its initial release. The ongoing copyright strikes against fan projects, while potentially strategic, cast a shadow on the hopes of fans yearning for an official return to Yharnam. Sony has yet to respond to requests for comment on this matter.
