In a Famitsu interview coinciding with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's PC launch, the development team revealed that Part 3's development commenced immediately after Rebirth's completion. Hamaguchi confirmed they're "progressing without any delay," adhering to the original project timeline.
Kitase further clarified that the main scenario was finalized, exceeding expectations. He emphasized the story's commitment to the original while delivering a satisfying conclusion, a goal achieved in collaboration with Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura. He expressed confidence that the final installment will resonate strongly with fans.
Rebirth's Success and Initial Concerns
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, released earlier this year, garnered widespread critical acclaim. Despite this success, Kitase and Hamaguchi admitted initial concerns about player reception, particularly given the success of the first game and the unique challenges of a middle installment in a trilogy. The overwhelmingly positive response, however, fueled the team's confidence and positively impacted the development of Part 3.
Hamaguchi's "logic-based approach" to development, incorporating player feedback strategically, played a significant role in Rebirth's success. He explained that while suggestions are considered, only those enhancing the core goals are implemented.
The Rise of PC Gaming and Part 3's Potential PC Release
The team also addressed the growing dominance of PC gaming. Kitase highlighted the rising development costs and the need to reach a broader audience, emphasizing the global accessibility of PCs compared to consoles. This shift influenced the decision to expedite the PC port of Rebirth.
Hamaguchi noted the accelerated PC port development for Rebirth, reflecting the changing landscape of gaming consumption. This experience, coupled with the success of the first two installments, suggests a potential for a faster PC release of Part 3, ensuring a wider global audience can experience the complete Remake Project.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is available now on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5. Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC (Steam).
