DOOM: The Dark Ages Will Introduce Its Own Marauder

by Thomas Mar 18,2025

Agadon the Hunter, a brand-new enemy replacing the Marauder, isn't just a souped-up version of its predecessor; he's a completely unique challenge. Drawing inspiration from several previous bosses, Agadon boasts a diverse skillset: dodging, evading attacks, and even deflecting projectiles—a real test for the Doom Slayer. He'll unleash a variety of combo attacks, demanding players master the use of a sawtooth shield, a mechanic reminiscent of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, a game that heavily influenced the developers. The Agadon encounter serves as the ultimate test of skills honed throughout the game—a final exam of sorts.

The decision to retain a challenging boss like the Marauder stems from the developers' belief that players are ready for an elevated challenge. However, they acknowledge that the previous Marauder encounter suffered not from difficulty itself, but from poor presentation and inadequate explanation.

Many mechanics crucial to defeating the Marauder were previously unused in the campaign, leading to player frustration due to the abrupt shift in gameplay. A more gradual introduction of these mechanics and improved player preparation aim to rectify this.

DOOM: The Dark Ages launches May 15, 2025, for current-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) and PC (Steam).
