Ubisoft Restarts Project Maverick Development: Rumor

The highly anticipated extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, originally planned for an Alaskan setting, has undergone a complete reboot, as reported by Insider Gaming. Initially known as Project Maverick, this game was envisioned as a multiplayer expansion to the upcoming Far Cry 7. However, after an internal review, Ubisoft decided to pivot the project's direction. Despite receiving positive feedback from both employees and testers, the management chose to shift most resources to Project Blackbird, which is Far Cry 7. The final decision to abandon the multiplayer component came with the reassignment of the technical team to other projects.

Now, Ubisoft Sherbrooke, known for its expertise in development support, has taken over the project's reins. This shift has seen nearly the entire original development team reassigned to work on the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson's report from mid-December 2024, Far Cry 7 is poised to thrust players into a gripping atmosphere filled with tension and desperation, with time emerging as the primary adversary. The game's narrative will center around the protagonist's race against time to rescue their family, kidnapped by a sinister conspiracy cult. This cult is involved in chilling experiments using hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will face a daunting challenge to save their loved ones within a tight 72-hour in-game window, which translates to 24 real-time hours, making time an essential and intense gameplay element.

A unique feature of Far Cry 7 will be the integration of a timer into the protagonist's wristwatch. This constant visual cue of the ticking clock will intensify the urgency, pressuring players to make swift and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 aims to offer a distinctive gaming experience where every second is precious, and every decision carries significant weight.
