Nintendo Will Sell Loads of Switch 2 Consoles at Launch ‘Regardless of Price,’ Analysts Predict, June Release Date Once Again Mentioned

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 has become a focal point of discussion within the gaming community. According to analysts speaking to IGN, the next-generation console is expected to launch at a starting price of $400. This expectation is reinforced by a recent Bloomberg report, which cites Japan-focused analysts predicting a similar price range. However, there's speculation that Nintendo might consider an even higher price point, possibly up to $499, as suggested by another analyst to Bloomberg. Despite the potential higher cost, expectations are high for the Switch 2 to have one of the most significant console launches ever, with Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto confidently stating to Bloomberg that "they will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price."

The anticipated success of the Switch 2 at launch is largely attributed to the high demand for its initial lineup of games. Analyst Serkan Toto expects a new Mario Kart game, as hinted by Nintendo, a new 3D Mario adventure, alongside the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, all to be released within the console's first year. Furthermore, Toto anticipates robust third-party support, including titles like Call of Duty from Activision.

There is a long list of rumored third-party titles expected to come to the console. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis found the Switch 2's apparent Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." French video game and accessories maker Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed Switch 2 games are ready to go. The much-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored for a Switch 2 release. Additionally, EA mentioned that Madden, FC, and The Sims would be well-suited for the new platform.

It’s worth mentioning that Activision has yet to officially announce its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has not commented on these reports.

The release date for the Switch 2 is increasingly speculated to be June 2025, with discussions not only online but also within games media circles. Robin Zhu, a Japan-based analyst from Sanford C. Bernstein, told Bloomberg that the Switch 2 is expected to launch in June with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. If Nintendo manages to sell out this stock quickly, the Switch 2 could surpass the sales records of its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5.

Concerns have been raised about the potential impact of the U.S. president Donald Trump's tariff war on the Nintendo Switch 2's price. The Trump administration has imposed tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, leading analysts to warn that these could affect the price and availability of video games and consoles. However, Bloomberg reports that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam and China, which, according to one analyst, reduces the risk for Nintendo due to its diversified manufacturing footprint.
