Metaphor: ReFantazio has a chance to become a series - game director
Hashino, when discussing the studio's future, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, according to Hashino. His focus remains on completing the current project, which was originally conceived as a third major JRPG series alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become Atlus' flagship title.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already working on their next project. However, an anime adaptation is being considered. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved remarkable success for Atlus, boasting a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961 – surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002). The game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
