WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC

by Scarlett Apr 11,2025

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular Harry Potter adventure game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the project was abruptly halted this week, with sources citing that the content volume did not justify the proposed price tag. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.

This cancellation comes at a time when Warner Bros. is undergoing significant restructuring within its gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made the tough decision to cancel its much-anticipated Wonder Woman game and shut down Monolith Productions, the studio behind it. Additionally, WB San Diego and the studio responsible for MultiVersus, Player First Games, also faced closures. The layoffs at Rocksteady last September further underscore the financial pressures the company is navigating.

Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," reflecting its strategy to focus on fewer but more significant franchises. The original game's impressive sales, surpassing 30 million copies, highlight its critical role in Warner Bros.' future plans.
