Upcoming Roguelike Has Big Hades Vibes

Rogue Loops: A Hades-Inspired Roguelike with a Twist

The upcoming indie roguelike, Rogue Loops, is heavily inspired by Hades, boasting a similar art style and core gameplay loop. However, Rogue Loops introduces a unique mechanic that sets it apart: ability upgrades come with distinct downsides, significantly altering gameplay. Think of it as a more pervasive and impactful version of Hades' Chaos Gates.

Currently available as a free demo on Steam, Rogue Loops features a repeating dungeon with randomly generated loot and ability upgrades, viewed from a top-down perspective. These upgrades, while powerful, are accompanied by "curses" that can affect the entire playthrough, adding a strategic layer to build creation.

The game's narrative centers around a family trapped in a deadly time loop. Players navigate five floors of dungeons, battling unique enemies and bosses. Each run unlocks procedurally generated upgrades, allowing for diverse build customization through a combination of beneficial buffs and detrimental debuffs.

While a precise release date remains unannounced, Rogue Loops is slated for a PC release in early 2025 (Q1 2025). Until then, players can explore the first floor via the free Steam demo. Other roguelikes like Dead Cells and Hades 2 offer engaging alternatives in the interim.

Key Features:

  • Hades-inspired gameplay: Repeating dungeon, randomly generated loot, top-down perspective.
  • Unique "curse" mechanic: Ability upgrades come with significant downsides impacting the entire run.
  • Procedurally generated builds: Unlockable upgrades allow for diverse character customization.
  • Engaging narrative: A family trapped in a time loop, fighting through five floors of dungeons.
  • Free demo available on Steam: Experience the first floor before the full release.
