Universe for Sale Is a New Visual Novel Set in a Bizarre Bazaar on Planet Jupiter
Akupara Games and Tmesis Studio have released their latest adventure game, Universe for Sale. Following the success of titles like The Darkside Detective series and Zoeti earlier this year, Akupara Games continues to deliver intriguing and captivating experiences.
Is the Universe Really for Sale?
The game unfolds on a Jupiter space station, a bizarre bazaar shrouded in acid rain and mystery. Here, witty orangutans work the docks alongside cultists bartering flesh for enlightenment. The universe itself is for sale, thanks to Lila, a woman with the extraordinary ability to create universes from her very palm.
The game begins in the shantytown of a mining colony, where you play as the Master, a skeletal cultist from the Cult of Detachment—a character both unsettling and captivating. Exploring the ramshackle colony, filled with quirky tea shops and other oddities, you eventually encounter Honin’s Tea House, Lila’s shop. Lila’s enigmatic nature slowly unravels as you shift between her perspective and the Master's throughout the gameplay.
Playing as Lila allows you to create universes in a captivating mini-game, mixing and matching ingredients to generate mesmerizing visual worlds. Meanwhile, the Master's journey delves into the philosophies of the Cult of Detachment and encounters with the Church of Many Gods.
The narrative unfolds gradually, prompting players to theorize about the overarching mystery. Each character, whether human, skeletal, or robotic, possesses a unique story, and the world is richly detailed, inviting exploration of every corner.
