The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Rune Slayer

by Jacob Mar 15,2025

After two failed launches and months of anticipation, Rune Slayer has arrived, and it's fantastic! While incredibly fun, the game has a steep learning curve, especially for newcomers to MMORPGs. Don't worry, this guide will help you conquer your Rune Slayer journey.

Here are some crucial tips we wish we knew starting out:

Don't Randomly Attack Other Players

Initially, Rune Slayer's full-loot PvP worried us. However, death isn't as punishing as you might think. You lose nothing upon death, regardless of the killer. The catch? Attacking players earns you a bounty. The higher your bounty, the more loot you drop upon your own demise. Therefore, avoid unprovoked player attacks unless you're confident, or have a group for backup.

Craft Bags Immediately

Inventory and bank space are severely limited in Rune Slayer. Thankfully, you can craft bags. Two can be equipped simultaneously, starting with the Cotton Bag. Find Cotton north of Wayshire and Flax south (be cautious of the southern mobs). Each Cotton Bag adds 10 slots—craft them ASAP!

Your Pets Don't Actually Die

Contrary to popular belief, your pets don't perish permanently. When their health reaches zero, they're simply unavailable for five minutes. Check the cooldown timer (hold T) and resummon after the five minutes. Bonus: Quickly heal your pet by storing and unstoring it at the Stable Master (you have one free slot).

Accept Every Quest

Rune Slayer boasts a plethora of quests, mostly non-repeatable and forgettable "kill X" type missions. To simplify things, accept every quest you encounter, including those from the job board. Often, multiple quests can be completed simultaneously.

Craft Everything At Least Once

Craft necessary items first, but use spare materials to craft anything you can. Initial crafting often unlocks more powerful crafting options later. We unlocked new Iron Armor after smelting our first Iron Ore.

Join a Guild

Rune Slayer is solo-friendly, but tougher enemies (especially those with high health) are designed for group combat. The easiest way to find a group is by joining a guild. Shout in general chat or use the official Rune Slayer Discord to find a guild and tackle challenging foes together.

That's it! Enjoy Rune Slayer! For further assistance, check out the Rune Slayer Trello and Discord.
