Arthurian Myths and Knights: The Core Concept

At Gamescom 2024, Eclipse Glow Games, a Chinese studio backed by Tencent, discussed the game's development. They chose a Western setting—specifically, Arthurian legends in a post-apocalyptic London—to appeal to a global audience. The producer's initial concept centered on knights, which naturally evolved into the iconic King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

The game casts players as Gwendolyn, seemingly the last human survivor of an Outworld invasion that has devastated London. While grounded in a modern setting, Tides of Annihilation incorporates fantasy elements directly inspired by Arthurian myths.

Devil May Cry-Inspired Combat and a Roster of Bosses

The gameplay reveals a combat system reminiscent of Devil May Cry, a fact the developers readily acknowledge. They've designed the controls to be accessible to a broad range of players, offering adjustable difficulty settings alongside customizable playstyles. Players can choose from four weapons and command over ten Knights of the Round Table as allies. With over 30 uniquely challenging bosses, combat promises to be a significant highlight.

An Anthology in the Making?

Eclipse Glow Games also hinted at the potential for a wider franchise, envisioning an anthology featuring different settings, mythologies, and protagonists, while retaining the core concept of the Outworld invasion. The success of Tides of Annihilation will be crucial in determining the future of this ambitious project.

Currently in beta, Tides of Annihilation is slated for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will embark on Gwendolyn's journey, battling fate and the forces of the Outworld, as the boundaries between modern London and the mythical realm of Avalon blur.
