Stardew Valley DLC and Updates Forever Free, Promises Creator

The creator of Stardew Valley, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, pledged to long-time fans that he would never charge for updates or DLCs.

Earlier today, Barone used Twitter(X) to update Stardew Valley fans on the progress of its ports and updates. Barone shared, "The ports and next pc update are still in progress. I know it is taking a long time, it's on my mind every minute. I have personally been working on the mobile port every day. I will announce when there is any significant news (e.g. a release date). Hope you're having a good summer."

One fan commented that people will not complain "as long as everything you add is completely free." Barone replied, "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." His response reassured fans that all future updates or DLCs of Stardew Valley will be free.

Stardew Valley is a farming simulator/RPG game released in 2016. Barone has consistently delivered substantial updates improving its performance and offering new ways for fans to enjoy the game. Stardew Valley's latest 1.6.9 update includes three festivals, multiple pets, expanded home renovations, new outfits, late-game content, and quality-of-life changes.

Barone’s assurance to his fans might extend beyond Stardew Valley, as he is also developing a new game called Haunted Chocolatier. However, there is limited information about this new project, and fans may wait for further announcements.

As the sole developer of Stardew Valley, Barone’s statement shows his respect and empathy for the gaming community. He even stated, "Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath." This reassured fans that they can enjoy new and engaging ways to play Stardew Valley without extra cost, despite it being a seven-year-old game.
