Star Wars: Hunter shutting down in late 2025, final content update next month
Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's mobile foray into the Star Wars universe, is closing its doors after less than a year. Launched in June 2024, the game blended game show aesthetics with unique Star Wars character designs, initially capturing attention. However, the game's servers will shut down on October 1st, 2024, with a final content update arriving April 15th.
This closure comes as a surprise, with little prior indication of underperformance. While in-game currency refunds are available and Season Three is extended to include reruns of seasonal events, the reasons behind the shutdown remain unclear. Speculation points to market saturation in the pseudo-hero shooter genre and a potential mismatch between the game's target audience and the broader Star Wars fanbase's demographics. The older, more casual Star Wars audience may not have been the primary consumer of a fast-paced mobile multiplayer experience.
Despite the closure, players can still experience Star Wars: Hunters before its October demise. The final hunter, Tuya, will be released as part of the April 15th update and will be free for all players. For those interested in exploring the game before it's gone, a tier list ranking Hunters by class is available.
