'Sleeping Dogs' Movie Adaptation in Works, Marvel's Simu Liu Confirms
Simu Liu, the star of Marvel's Shang-Chi, is reportedly attempting to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reported Liu's response to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively "working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen."
The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was seemingly abandoned a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of work and investment, ultimately thwarted by the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.
Liu's intervention offers a glimmer of hope for fans of the critically acclaimed 2012 video game. The original Sleeping Dogs, a critically acclaimed action-adventure title (earning an 8/10 from IGN) that follows undercover detective Wei Shen as he navigates Hong Kong's Triad underworld, remains a fan favorite despite lacking sequels. Whether Liu can secure the rights and successfully bring the project to fruition remains uncertain.
