"Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat This Fall: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans"

by Hazel Apr 20,2025

Ubisoft is steering Skull and Bones into its most expansive year yet with Year 2, promising a bounty of new content that includes new game modes, ships, a fearsome Kraken, and the much-anticipated addition of land combat. This exciting roadmap was unveiled during a special Year 2 showcase that aired just yesterday, and it's packed with thrilling updates for players to anticipate.

The highlight of the upcoming content is Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall. It introduces the long-awaited land combat feature, fulfilling a key request from the community since the game's launch last February. In this season, dubbed Rogue Warlord, players will finally step onto land, engaging in swordfights and gunfights. The action will take place on sandy beaches and within damp caves as players work to rescue skilled Officers for their crew. A teaser video gave a glimpse of what to expect, but fans will need to wait until later this year to experience the full extent of this new gameplay element.

While land combat stands out as the major draw for Year 2, Ubisoft's presentation revealed a wealth of other additions to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today on April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new medium Schooner ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Following in summer 2025, Season 2: Oaths of War will feature Megaforts and the massive Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set for this winter, will bring the legendary Kraken, the Hunter's Guild, and the Corvette large ship to the game.

If the roadmap has you eager to set sail, you're in luck. Skull and Bones is offering a free weekend from April 17 to 21, giving players a chance to experience pirate PvP firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, although the exact discount has not yet been revealed.

Launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, Skull and Bones received a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has not disclosed specific sales figures, they have indicated that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% surge in players for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.
