by Madison Apr 20,2025

In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with some of the game's most challenging moral decisions. Whether you choose to side with Semine or Hashek during this quest can significantly impact the storyline and its outcomes. Here's a detailed guide to help you navigate through the quest and make informed choices.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough

After completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you'll unlock "Necessary Evil." In this quest, von Bergow tasks Hans and Henry with gathering intelligence from Nebakov Fortress and interrogating a prisoner. The results of this interrogation will influence whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This guide focuses on the path that leads to Semine, where you'll face more complex decisions.

Prisoner Interrogation Answers

During the interrogation, you'll need to pass Speech checks to extract information from the prisoner. You can opt to threaten him with sufficient Speech skills or resort to torture instruments. Here are the Speech check requirements:

  • “We’ll put in a good word for you.” (20 Impression)
  • “Istvan and I are old acquaintances.” (20 Impression)
  • “Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you.” (17 Intimidation)

After the interrogation, you'll uncover the identity of the bandit leader and Semine's involvement. When reporting back to von Bergow, you can either implicate Young Semine, leading to an attack on the town, or claim no local assistance to the bandits, redirecting the attack to Nebakov.

Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?

Choosing to attack Semine involves riding with the party to the location and making tough decisions concerning Hashek. Opting for Nebakov results in von Bergow handling the bandits there, concluding the quest swiftly.

While attacking Nebakov avoids the bloodshed at Semine, it's ethically questionable to let Semine escape punishment for actions that have led to numerous deaths. Personally, I chose to attack Semine, feeling it was the morally correct decision despite my familiarity with the town from earlier in the game.

If you choose Semine, ensure you ride with the party to prevent the town's slaughter. Accompanying them gives you a chance to intervene and help Semine.

Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?

Decision Between Semine and Hashek in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Before departing, you can talk to Hashek, revealing his vengeful intentions towards Semine and his preference for a violent resolution. Upon arrival at Semine, you must decide whether to side with Semine or Hashek.

To side with Hashek, select the dialogue option, "Hashek is right." To support Semine, choose "Olda deserves a trial."

I recommend siding with Semine. Although Semine's actions were wrong, Hashek's desire for destruction would result in more innocent casualties. Playing Henry as a morally upright character made it fitting for him to oppose Hashek's plans.

After defeating Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee to advance the quest and move to the next objective of reporting to von Bergow.

Choosing Hashek leads to the town's massacre. You'll also encounter Olda in the tower, where you can decide his fate—either sparing him or handing him over to Hashek.

Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?

The final part of the quest involves reporting back to von Bergow. You can either remain silent and let Hans handle the conversation or speak up and reveal what transpired at Semine.

I suggest staying silent and allowing Hans to speak. Hans is more diplomatic, ensuring both he and Henry remain in von Bergow's favor. This choice leads to von Bergow planning his next move against Nebakov.

That concludes the guide on choosing between Semine and Hashek in the "Necessary Evil" quest in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*. For more tips and information, including romance options and where to find Goatskin, be sure to visit The Escapist.
