"The Last of Us Season 2 to Include Brutal Cut Content from Game"

by Mia Apr 22,2025

Fans of *The Last of Us* series are in for a thrilling experience as HBO's Season 2 will delve into content that was originally cut from *The Last of Us Part 2* video game. According to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann, the upcoming season will feature some "pretty brutal" scenes, reviving content from the game's "Lost Levels." These levels, partially restored in the PlayStation 5 remaster, include three early versions of scrapped content: Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers. While Jackson Party and The Hunt offer more serene settings with Ellie attending a social gathering and tracking a bleeding boar, respectively, the Seattle Sewers level ramps up the horror as Ellie navigates monster-filled tunnels beneath the city.

Druckmann expressed his excitement about the revival of this intense content, noting that it would leave fans on the edge of their seats. He also hinted at the introduction of a "pretty prominent" character, mentioned only in the game, akin to the inclusion of Frank in Season 1.

Season 2 is set to introduce a host of new characters, with Kaitlyn Dever taking on the role of Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. However, the casting of Catherine O'Hara remains a mystery, adding an element of intrigue to the upcoming season.

Anticipation is high as Episode 1 of Season 2 is slated to premiere in April. Yet, some mysteries might linger longer due to HBO's plan to extend the narrative of *The Last of Us Part 2* beyond a single season. Unlike Season 1, which covered the entire original game, Season 2 will only cover part of the story from *The Last of Us Part 2*. Showrunner Craig Mazin has indicated that the sequel contains much more content, and although Season 3 hasn't been greenlit yet, Season 2 has been structured with a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.
