Rune Slayer Fishing: Beginner's Guide

by Alexis Apr 02,2025

If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is a true MMORPG, let the presence of fishing put those doubts to rest. While we're joking about the fishing defining an MMORPG, let's dive into how you can master the art of fishing in *Rune Slayer*. It's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*, but don't worry, we've got you covered on how to catch those elusive fish.

Before you even think about casting your line, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. You'll find this white-haired NPC hanging out at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon wants you to catch 5 “fish” (note the quotation marks—we'll get to that), and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box.

Here’s the catch: to start fishing, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait or tackle. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to guy for these supplies.

So, **purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. Most players suggest having at least 5 worms, but we opted for 10 to be on the safe side. **Just a heads up, you don't actually equip the bait**. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; they're used automatically when you fish. **Each time you catch something, one Worm disappears from your inventory**.

But here's the tricky part: **you need at least 5 baits to catch anything**. We tried with just one Worm and came up empty-handed. It was only after we had 5 Worms in our inventory that we started to see results. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep an eye on your supply. Once you're equipped with these essentials, you're ready to move on to the next step.

First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it traditionally, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will ready it with both hands.

**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water** (the pier near Simon is a perfect spot). Keep an eye on the bobber, and when it **ripples once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's as simple as that.

However, **success isn't guaranteed every time**. More often than not, you'll come up empty. Sometimes, you'll pull in junk instead of fish, but here's the good news: **Simon counts junk as a catch**, which is why we used quotation marks earlier.

So, keep casting, wait for those ripples, hit M1, and aim to reel in anything five times. We ended up catching only two fish, while the rest were Old Cups.

**Once you've caught 5 “fish”, return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to save inventory space for more important items.
