Rumor: Switch 2 Won’t Be Compatible With Vital Accessory

Nintendo Switch 2: New Charger Required?

Rumors suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may require a more powerful charger than its predecessor. While the console's design appears similar to the original Switch, based on recent leaks, a 60W power cord is reportedly needed for optimal charging. This means the original Switch's charger might be insufficient.

The Switch 2's unveiling is anticipated by March 2025, but until then, information remains largely unofficial. Recent leaks have offered glimpses of the console, including images suggesting a familiar design with enhancements, and showcasing magnetic Joy-Con controllers.

A recent image, reportedly sourced from a reliable contact on BlueSky, depicts the Switch 2's charging dock. This image supports the claim of a necessary 60W power supply. While the original Switch cable might charge the new console, it's likely to be inefficient, making a 60W cable the recommended option.

Charging Compatibility Concerns

Numerous rumors surrounding the Switch 2 have circulated. Earlier leaks included details about developer kits and potential launch titles, suggesting a possible new Mario Kart and a Monolith Soft project. The console's graphical capabilities are speculated to be comparable to the PlayStation 4 Pro, although some sources suggest a slightly lower performance level.

Although the Switch 2 will include its own charger, the incompatibility with the original Switch's cable is a point to note. Gamers who might lose their Switch 2 charger should be aware that the older, lower-wattage cable may not provide optimal charging performance, if the rumors prove true.
