Rumor: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Canceled
The highly anticipated Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, first teased in September 2021, remains shrouded in uncertainty. Recent claims suggest the project may have been indefinitely halted, dashing the hopes of many fans. This unsettling news comes from Alex Smith, former head of Bend Studio and a veteran of the acclaimed Syphon Filter series.
Smith, via his X account, alleges that development on the SW: KotOR Remake has ceased completely, contradicting Saber Interactive's 2024 statement that work was progressing. He further claims that some team members have been reassigned, while others have faced layoffs. Should this prove accurate, it would represent a devastating setback for those eagerly awaiting this iconic RPG's remake.
It's important to note Smith's track record. While he has accurately leaked information in the past—for instance, predicting a new Housemarque game—his predictions regarding Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Tsushima release dates were inaccurate. Therefore, his latest claims should be treated with a degree of caution.
As of yet, Saber Interactive and Aspyr, the developers, have not offered any official response, leaving the future of the SW: KotOR Remake uncertain and fans anxiously awaiting clarification.
