Rocksteady Seeks Game Director for New Batman Game

by Christopher Apr 24,2025

Rocksteady Studios, renowned for their iconic Batman: Arkham series, is setting the stage for their next major project. On February 17, Warner Bros. Discovery announced a job opening for a Game Director, signaling the early stages of a new game's development. The role demands the creation of a "high-quality game design," covering core gameplay mechanics, player progression, combat systems, and mission design. Candidates should boast experience in third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee combat games, fueling speculation that Rocksteady might be returning to the beloved Batman universe.

The Batman: Arkham series, which catapulted Rocksteady to fame, closely matches these criteria, unlike their latest release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which leaned more towards gunplay rather than melee combat. Given that the studio is only beginning the hiring process, it's likely that the new game is still in its conceptual phase.

Industry insider Jason Schreier has indicated that if Rocksteady opts for a new single-player Batman game, fans should not anticipate its release for several years. This aligns with the timeline considering the early stage of development.

Rocksteady's most recent title, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was released on February 2, 2024, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. It garnered mixed reviews, with a critics' score of 63 out of 100 and a user score of 4.2 out of 10 on Metacritic.

Rumors have circulated about Rocksteady potentially revisiting the Batman franchise, with whispers of a project inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series, further adding to the anticipation and speculation among fans.
