"Robert Eggers Set to Helm Labyrinth Sequel"

by Camila Apr 08,2025

Robert Eggers, acclaimed for his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the cherished classic, Labyrinth. According to Variety, Eggers will not only direct but also co-write the screenplay with his collaborator from The Northman, Sjón. This new project follows a previous attempt at a sequel that had Scott Derrickson, known for Sinister, attached. However, with no progress since 2023, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to proceed with Eggers' vision.

Play*Labyrinth*, originally released in 1986, featured David Bowie as the enchanting Goblin King Jareth, who abducts the baby brother of Jennifer Connelly's character. She embarks on a thrilling journey through a dark fantasy realm, aided by a colorful cast of Jim Henson's puppets, to rescue her sibling.

In addition to the Labyrinth sequel, Eggers is also set to helm a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. This film will be set in 13th century England and will feature dialogue in Old English, promising a unique and immersive experience where, undoubtedly, a transformation into a fearsome wolf creature will play a central role.

Eggers' recent work, Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 silent film by F.W. Murnau, hit theaters last Christmas. Set in 19th century Germany, it follows a young real estate agent's harrowing journey to Transylvania to sell a castle to a mysterious count, leading to terrifying vampiric nightmares that engulf him and his wife Ellen.

Nosferatu has garnered significant acclaim, earning four Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. For a deeper dive into the film, you can read our comprehensive review here.
