  • Grand Theft Auto 5 ranked as the third highest-selling title for the PS5 in both the US/Canada and Europe in December 2024.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 was the top-selling PS4 game in the United States and the second best-seller in the EU during the same period.

Rockstar Games' titles, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, have maintained impressive sales figures long after their debut. These games are part of Rockstar's acclaimed open-world franchises, renowned for delivering high-quality gaming experiences that resonate deeply with players.

Grand Theft Auto 5, which hit the shelves in 2013, immerses players in the bustling, chaotic world of Los Santos as they navigate the lives of three aspiring criminals. Initially a blockbuster, GTA 5's success soared with its multiple platform re-releases and the introduction of its hugely popular online multiplayer mode, cementing its place as one of the best-selling entertainment products ever. In contrast, Red Dead Redemption 2, launched in 2018, offers players a journey through the rugged Old West as outlaw Arthur Morgan, achieving both critical acclaim and commercial success.

Despite being nearly 12 years old for GTA 5 and almost seven years old for Red Dead Redemption 2, both titles continue to dominate sales charts. PlayStation's December 2024 download chart highlights GTA 5's enduring appeal, ranking it as the third highest-selling title for the PS5 in both the US/Canada and Europe, and fifth for the PS4 in these regions. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 led the PS4 sales in the United States and secured the second spot in the EU, surpassed only by EA Sports FC 25.

GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Are Still Topping PlayStation Sales Charts

The European 2024 GSD figures, as reported by VGC, show GTA 5 as the fourth highest-selling game of the year, improving from its fifth position in 2023. Red Dead Redemption 2 also climbed the ranks, securing seventh place, up from eighth the previous year. Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, recently announced that GTA 5 has surpassed 205 million units sold worldwide, while Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 67 million copies.

The sustained success of these veteran titles underscores the enduring appeal of Rockstar's games. Fans eagerly anticipate the future of these franchises, with Grand Theft Auto 6 slated for a possible release later this year, and whispers of a Red Dead Redemption 2 port to the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
