PSA: Days Gone Remastered PS5 Upgrade Omitted for PS Plus Claims

by Violet Feb 22,2025

Days Gone Remastered, a highlight of Sony's recent State of Play presentation, has sparked controversy among PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy.

Sony's $10 upgrade path to the PlayStation 5 remaster is exclusively available to owners of the PlayStation 4 disc or digital version of Days Gone. This excludes players who acquired the game through PlayStation Plus, either via the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or the April 2021 Essential monthly offering. These players must pay the full $49.99 price for the PS5 remaster.

This restriction has prompted widespread online complaints from PS Plus subscribers. A PlayStation Plus subreddit thread is filled with comments from users who would have gladly paid the $10 upgrade fee but will now forgo the game entirely.

Several users voiced their opinions: squarejellyfish_ noted the potential lost revenue from excluding PS Plus subscribers, even if only a small percentage would upgrade. teckn9ne79 stated their unwillingness to pay full price, preferring to keep their existing PS Plus copy. dredizzle99 echoed this sentiment, highlighting the missed opportunity for sales. jackanyon95 criticized Sony's decision, arguing the game didn't require a remaster and that the free PS Plus distribution represented lost potential revenue.

While some PS Plus subscribers understand Sony's likely cost-benefit analysis behind the decision, many criticize the company's perceived stinginess, particularly considering the game's prior free availability. This perceived lack of generosity from PlayStation has disappointed some loyal fans.
