Pokémon TCG: Destined Rivals Preorders Live - Top Tips to Secure

by Nora Mar 29,2025

Get ready, Pokémon TCG fans! The highly anticipated set, Destined Rivals, is on the horizon, and I'm already clearing shelf space and mentally preparing to splurge on that Elite Trainer Box I definitely don't need but absolutely must have. This set is a thrilling return to Trainer's Pokémon, reintroduces the notorious Team Rocket for some villainous antics, and boasts some of the most stunning card art we've seen in recent times. If you're a fan of dazzling collectibles or simply revel in the thrill of wielding cardboard power, Destined Rivals is the set for you.

The Pokémon Center website recently underwent some "mysterious" maintenance and has now opened preorders. If you miss out there, keep an eye on Amazon, Target, Best Buy, and other retailers, where listings are expected to pop up any moment. It might feel like Black Friday as you refresh your screen in anticipation of those battle decks. Here's everything you need to know to secure your preorder this week.

When Does Destined Rivals Officially Launch?

Mark your calendars for May 30, 2025, the official release date for Destined Rivals. That's when all sealed products will ship and hit store shelves, provided there's any stock left. The Pokémon Company has been addressing ongoing shortages, so fingers crossed. Between May 17 and 25, select stores will host pre-release events featuring Build & Battle boxes and early access tournaments. Make sure to check with your local league store now—perhaps even sweeten the deal with some snacks to secure your spot.

What Products Will Be Launching With This Set?

I'd like to think I'll stick to just one purchase. I also entertain the idea of hitting the gym three times a week. We're all telling ourselves little white lies, and that's perfectly okay.

Here's a rundown of the products you can expect when Destined Rivals launches:

  • Booster Packs
  • Booster Boxes (36 packs)
  • Elite Trainer Box
  • Pokémon Center Exclusive Elite Trainer Box
  • Booster Bundle (6 packs)
  • Triple-pack blisters
  • Build & Battle Box
  • Build & Battle Stadium

Additionally, we might see special collection boxes featuring alternate art promos, particularly spotlighting characters like Cynthia, Misty, Ethan, or Marnie. You don't need them, but you'll undoubtedly convince yourself otherwise.

Destined Origins Cards I’ve Got My Eye On

I can already see myself with multiple binders filled with these cards, but a few have already secured a spot on my mental wishlist:

  • Cynthia’s Garchomp ex - A powerhouse card with big damage, hand draw, and the smug energy of someone who always gets their turn one setup. It's pure Champion energy, and I want three.
  • Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex - This card combines utility with sparkle, accelerating Fire Energy effortlessly while the Shining Feather ability heals your whole team and hits for 160. It's absurd, and I'm in love.
  • Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex - This card is all about drama. It won't attack unless you've built a full Rocket-themed deck, but when it does, it throws energy around like a caffeinated Gengar. It's extra, and I respect it.
  • Misty’s Psyduck - It's here to make you laugh and then possibly lose a game in the most endearing way. Its ability lets you discard it to the top of your deck for... reasons. I don't care; it's perfect.
  • Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex - It brings villainous vibes with an aggressive Dark-type build that thrives on energy acceleration and disruption. I plan to run it like it's 2020 all over again.
