Pokemon Fan Shares Mega Toucannon Concept
A Pokémon enthusiast has unveiled a fan-made Mega Evolution for the Normal/Flying-type Toucannon, sparking excitement online. The Pokémon franchise currently boasts 48 Mega Evolutions; 30 debuted in Pokémon X and Y (Generation VI), with the remainder introduced in the 2014 remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
Mega Evolutions are temporary transformations enhancing a Pokémon's appearance, stats, and movepool. Iconic Pokémon like Lucario, Mewtwo (with two Mega forms each), and Charizard have all undergone this powerful upgrade. Given the series' vast roster of over 1,000 Pokémon, it's unsurprising that fans create their own Mega Evolutions for Pokémon lacking official versions.
On the Pokémon subreddit, user Just-Drawing-Mons presented their vision of Mega Toucannon, Alola's regional bird and final evolution of Pikipek and Trumbeak. This custom Mega Evolution features a distinct redesign, most notably a modified beak resembling a scope. While many Mega Evolutions alter a Pokémon's type, Just-Drawing-Mons didn't specify any such changes for their Toucannon concept.
More Fan-Made Mega Evolutions and Redesigns
Just-Drawing-Mons' creative endeavors extend beyond Toucannon. They've also designed a Mega Skarmory (Generation II's Steel/Flying-type) and offered intriguing redesigns for existing Pokémon. One notable example is their Fighting-type Alakazam, a reimagining of the original 151 Pokémon's arguably best Psychic-type.
Mega Evolutions, previously featured in spin-offs like Pokémon GO, Pokémon Masters EX, and Pokémon Unite, are set for a triumphant return in the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Launching on the Switch in 2025 and set in Lumiose City (Kalos region), this title promises a nostalgic journey.
The Pokémon community eagerly anticipates Mega Evolutions for several fan-favorite Pokémon in this next major installment. Among the most requested are Dragonite (a powerhouse from Generation I), the Generation VI starters (Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie), and Flygon (whose Mega Evolution was originally planned for Pokémon X and Y but ultimately scrapped due to design challenges, according to Ken Sugimori, the franchise's lead character designer).
