Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Pokemon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected

Don't expect any news regarding Switch 2 Pokemon titles during the upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 reveal, new Pokemon games will seemingly remain exclusive to the original Switch console for the foreseeable future. The February 27th presentation will likely focus on updates for existing titles and Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

The Nintendo Switch 2's existence has been confirmed, although details remain scarce. While backward compatibility with the original Switch is assured, official details regarding its release and specifications are still pending. Current leaks point to a more powerful, larger iteration of the original console.

Although future Pokemon games are undoubtedly destined for the Switch 2, insider information suggests the February 27th Pokemon Presents will showcase titles currently in development for the original Switch. Thanks to backward compatibility, these games will be playable on the Switch 2.

Focus on Existing Titles and Pokemon Legends: Z-A

The Pokemon Presents will almost certainly feature updates on ongoing live-service games like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. A significant portion will likely be dedicated to Pokemon Legends: Z-A, slated for release on the original Switch this year. While a teaser trailer hinted at a Lumiose City setting, returning Pokemon, and the return of Mega Evolutions, much remains undisclosed. Rumors also suggest another mainline Pokemon game may launch this year.

Potential for a New Mainline Title (Original Switch)

Speculation points towards potential remakes of Pokemon Black and White, or another Let's Go installment, all reportedly destined for the original Switch—not the Switch 2. If accurate, this suggests the first Switch 2-exclusive mainline Pokemon games will likely be the Generation 10 titles.

This strategy aligns with past Pokemon releases. Recall that Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 launched on the original DS, not the 3DS. History, it seems, may repeat itself.

However, remember that all of this is based on unconfirmed leaks. Tune into the Pokemon Presents on February 27th for official announcements.
