Nvidia Issues RTX 5090 and 5080 Stock Shortage Warning to PC Gamers Ahead of Hotly Anticipated Release Date

by Mila Feb 25,2025

The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards are set to launch on January 30th. However, concerns about significant shortages are mounting, fueled by reports from retailers and manufacturers.

With eager buyers already lining up outside stores, the RTX 5090 ($1,999) and RTX 5080 ($999) are projected to be incredibly sought-after, despite their premium prices. MSI, a major manufacturer, attributes the initial scarcity to the Lunar New Year, anticipating stock levels to improve in February.

Several retailers have echoed these concerns, with some reporting extremely limited initial allocations of the RTX 5090, even in the single digits. One U.S. retailer described the RTX 5090 launch as facing "the worst availability."

In response to the growing anxiety, Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging the anticipated high demand and the possibility of stock-outs. The company assures consumers that they and their partners are actively working to increase retail stock.

Despite Nvidia's statement, the fear of limited supply has already attracted scalpers. Pre-sale listings on eBay are already showcasing inflated prices, with one Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 listed for a staggering $5,750 – a massive 187% markup.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges, the company experienced a significant 16.86% share price drop on Monday following the announcement of the DeepSeek AI model, which poses a potential threat to Nvidia's datacenter GPU sales.
