Nintendo Switch 2: A Closer Look
Nintendo Switch 2 Direct: April 2nd, 2025
Following months of speculation, Nintendo finally unveiled the Switch 2 with a brief teaser trailer. The trailer showcases a refined design while maintaining the hybrid functionality of its predecessor.
Key design improvements include a larger screen, a more robust kickstand, and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons – a significant change from the original Switch's rail system. A new USB-C port on the console itself was also confirmed.
Backward compatibility is confirmed for both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, though Nintendo acknowledges that some titles may have limited or no support. Specific details regarding incompatible games will be released later on the Nintendo website. Nintendo Switch Online functionality will also continue on the Switch 2.
While no exclusive titles have been officially announced, the teaser hinted at a potential new Mario Kart installment (possibly Mario Kart 9). Rumors also suggest Gotham Knights may be coming to the Switch 2, but this remains unconfirmed. A dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025, will provide further details on games and other features.
