Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con in App

by Nathan Apr 10,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, as had been rumored. This confirmation came through the newly announced and released Nintendo Today! app, which features an image in its App Store and Google Play listings that clearly shows the C on the button.

The C button was first revealed alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images of the new Joy-Con did not show a letter on the button. However, prior reports had suggested it was called the "C" button, and those reports have now been verified.

There's been a lot of speculation about the purpose of this new button. Some believe it could be related to "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly or facilitating screen sharing. Others speculate it might allow users to switch the Joy-Con's functionality, such as into a mouse mode. There's also talk that it could be linked to new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has announced a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, so we may learn more about the C button's function then. In the meantime, here's what we know for sure about the Nintendo Switch 2:
  • Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is larger than the original Switch, featuring larger Joy-Con that appear to be usable as a mouse.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, compared to the single port on the original Nintendo Switch.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported or fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
