MultiVersus Adds New Fighters Amidst Developer Pressure
MultiVersus's story is a cautionary tale in game development, comparable to the infamous Concord debacle. Despite its impending closure, the developers have unveiled the final two characters gracing the roster: Lola Bunny and Aquaman.
This announcement follows considerable fan backlash, with some resorting to threats against the development team. MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh responded with a heartfelt message, pleading with players to refrain from such behavior.
Huynh apologized for unmet expectations regarding character additions, expressing hope that fans would still enjoy the final Season 5 content. He explained the complexities involved in adding characters, emphasizing his limited control over the selection process, contrary to some fans' perceptions.
The shutdown announcement also sparked outrage among players who couldn't spend their in-game tokens on the promised new characters—a perk for buyers of the $100 edition. This unfulfilled promise may have contributed to the escalation of threats.
