by Brooklyn Apr 02,2025

Embarking on the journey through the perilous Living Lands in *Avowed* is made safer and more enjoyable with the right companions by your side. In *Avowed*, you have the opportunity to recruit four unique Companions, each bringing their own distinct personality and a set of upgradable abilities to your adventure. Here's a detailed look at each Companion you can recruit in *Avowed*.

Kai

Kai in Avowed

Kai is among the first Companions you'll encounter in *Avowed*. Although you meet two characters during the tutorial level, Kai is the first to officially join your party. You'll meet him early in the game at the port in Dawnshore near Paradis. Kai approaches you directly on the dock, and you'll team up to search for the Ambassador and the Cleric. He remains in your party until you recruit three Companions, at which point you can swap him out at a Party Camp.

In *Avowed*, Kai is an ex-mercenary with a tough exterior but a soft heart. In combat, he serves as a tank, capable of both sustaining and dealing significant damage. Additionally, Kai's fire abilities are useful for clearing obstacles like cobwebs and roots, helping you discover hidden paths and valuable loot.

Kai's upgradable abilities include:

  • Fire and Ire (Active): Kai fires a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, dealing high stun to a single enemy and taunting them for 10 seconds.
  • Unbending Defense (Active): Kai regenerates his health and increases his damage reduction by 25%.
  • Leap of Daring (Active): Kai leaps onto an enemy, stunning and taunting nearby foes.
  • Second Win (Passive): When Kai's health drops to zero, he revives himself, restoring 50% of his maximum health.

Marius

Marius in Avowed

Marius, the second Companion you'll meet, has a history with Kai and can be found in Dawnshore. You'll join forces with him at a bar, where you can either talk your way out of or engage in combat with some aggressive NPCs.

Marius is an expert hunter and tracker, which is reflected in his personality, narrative, and gameplay. His Hunter Sense ability aids in locating loot and crafting materials across the Living Lands. In combat, Marius uses a bow and arrow and daggers, and can manipulate nature to trap enemies with Roots.

Marius's upgradable abilities are:

  • Binding Roots (Active): Marius roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
  • Heart Seeker (Active): Marius fires a piercing shot that always hits its target, passing through obstacles.
  • Shadow Step (Active): Marius vanishes into smoke, reappearing to slash enemies with his daggers up to three times.
  • Wounding Shots (Passive): Marius's attacks cause bleeding.

Giatta

Giatta in Avowed

Giatta, the third Companion, joins you later in the main quest at the Emerald Stair Region in the Fior settlement. As an animancer, she practices a controversial form of magic in the Living Lands.

Giatta plays a crucial role in unraveling the spiritual mysteries of the main quest. In combat, she serves as a support, using her magic to heal, shield, and buff allies. Her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, powers Essence Generators, which can open new pathways and reveal hidden loot during exploration.

Giatta's upgradable abilities include:

  • Purification (Active): Giatta heals all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
  • Barrier (Active): Giatta grants all allies a shield of temporary health for 20 seconds.
  • Acceleration (Active): Giatta boosts the move and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
  • Reconstruction (Passive): Giatta's attacks heal all allies slightly.

Yatzli

Yatzli in Avowed

Yatzli, the fourth and final Companion, joins your party during a main quest in the Shatterscarp region within the city of Thirdborn, though you may encounter her earlier in the world.

Like Giatta, Yatzli uses magic, but her focus is on dealing damage. Her spells are potent, effective against single targets and for crowd control. Yatzli also uses her magic to clear obstacles, making her invaluable for exploring the Living Lands.

Yatzli's upgradable abilities are:

  • Essence Explosion (Active): Yatzli's arcane power explodes on contact, releasing Essence and dealing explosive damage.
  • Minoletta’s Missile Battery (Active): Yatzli launches a volley of arcane missiles that seek out enemies.
  • Arduos Delay of Motion (Active): Yatzli slows an enemy for 10 seconds using arcane energy.
  • Blast (Passive): Yatzli's attacks create a small area of effect upon hitting an enemy.

These are all the Companions you can recruit in *Avowed*, each offering unique skills and abilities to enhance your journey through the Living Lands. *Avowed* is now available on PC and Xbox, ready for you to explore and conquer with your chosen team.
