Marvel Comics to Relaunch Captain America With Batman Writer Chip Zdarsky
Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Captain America title with a fresh creative team and a captivating new storyline. This revitalized series will delve into Steve Rogers' early experiences after his revival from suspended animation, even chronicling his very first encounter with the iconic Doctor Doom.
As announced at the ComicsPro retailer convention, the creative powerhouse behind this relaunch includes writer Chip Zdarsky (renowned for his work on Batman and Daredevil), artist Valerio Schiti (G.O.D.S., The Avengers), and colorist Frank D'Armata. This marks a reunion for the trio, who previously collaborated on Marvel's 2017 2-in-One.

The narrative kicks off shortly after Steve's rediscovery and reintegration into the modern Marvel Universe. His initial mission, following his re-enlistment in the US Army, involves a collaboration with the Howling Commandos to infiltrate the recently Doctor Doom-conquered Latveria. While the series will eventually transition to contemporary Marvel settings, the events of this initial arc will significantly impact the ongoing storyline crafted by Zdarsky and Schiti.
Zdarsky shared his excitement, stating, "I've been a huge Captain America fan for decades. After writing the seasoned, older Cap in Avengers: Twilight, getting to helm the main Captain America title feels surreal! We're exploring Cap's early modern era adventures with a surprising twist! I'm thrilled to share this, especially with Valerio and Frank's incredible artwork."
He continued, "My approach mirrors my Daredevil run, aiming for a grounded, human portrayal of Cap in this new world. Steve Rogers embodies the best of humanity, and I aim to reflect that on every page."
Schiti expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "Captain America is a personal favorite. Reuniting with Chip and Frank after our Marvel 2-In-One experience is fantastic, and working on a story that balances heart, action, and entertainment is exhilarating! Surprisingly, I found myself focusing more on Steve Rogers, the man, rather than just Captain America."
Schiti added, "Chip's script is brilliantly clever and engaging. Readers will be drawn into Steve's heart and soul. He's the living embodiment of truth, justice, and freedom. He fought Nazism, 'died,' and returned to fight again. That's immense pressure, especially considering he's only in his late twenties in the era we're exploring!"
Captain America #1 will debut on July 2, 2025.
