Larian Studios Shifts Focus to New Game, Implements 'Media Blackout'

Larian Studios, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3, has announced a shift in focus to their next big project. Following the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian is now under a "media blackout" as they concentrate on crafting a new game. Despite the excitement around the upcoming Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3, which is slated for release later this year, the studio's full attention is now on what comes next.

Swen Vincke, the head of Larian, recently took to Twitter to reflect on the studio's journey, highlighting the incredible success of Baldur’s Gate 3. "But the story ain't over yet," Vincke teased, hinting at more to come. In a statement to VideoGamer, Larian confirmed that their focus is now entirely on their next title, which will not be a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 or another Dungeons & Dragons game. Instead, it's a completely new project that the team is eager to explore after failing to generate internal enthusiasm for a Baldur's Gate follow-up.

While details about the new game remain scarce, Vincke has expressed excitement about pushing boundaries with this upcoming project. In November 2023, he hinted at the studio's next big game, suggesting it would be something innovative and boundary-pushing. Additionally, Vincke mentioned in a July 2023 interview with IGN that a sequel to the Divinity: Original Sin series is also in the works, though fans should not expect it immediately.
