Intricate Carving Pays Homage to Fire-Breathing Charizard
A talented Pokemon fan has employed their woodworking skills to create an incredible wooden box, emblazoned with a carved Charizard. The impressive Pokemon work looks perfect to hold Pokemon TCG cards or any other small knickknack a big Charizard fan may need to tuck away.
Charizard has remained an extremely popular Pokemon ever since its inception in the '90s. Charmander, like the other Pokemon Red and Blue Kanto starters, quickly worked its way into players' hearts and minds, but it also saw a huge popularity bump thanks to Ash's Charmander in the Pokemon anime. Eventually, Ash's well-behaved and charming Charmander grows up to become an unruly Charizard, adding characterization and amusement to the idea of raising a Charmander. It's also remained relevant in battles, making Charizard one of the most liked and recognizable Pokemon from the series.
Pokemon fan FrigginBoomT has now celebrated Charizard by creating a wooden box with its image carved into the top. The carving was impressively done by hand, and shows a dynamic shot of Charizard blasting something with its flame breath. The edges of the box are carved with a series of Unown, further adding to its appeal. According to FrigginBoomT, the box is made from a combination of pine and plywood to ensure the box isn't too heavy.
Pokemon Carvings and Other Tributes
The impressive creation has drawn the attention of many fans of Charizard, who were quick to shower the artist with praise. One fan was curious if the box is for sale, to which they replied that it isn't, but that they do take commissions for those who are interested. They also have an Etsy shop, which has numerous other wood engraved designs and creations based on anime and games. The fan is no stranger to Pokemon, either, having previously made a Mimikyu design, Mew, Gengar, and Exeggutor creations, to name just a few.
While paper and pencil or 2D digital images might be the most common form of Pokemon fanart, that doesn't stop crafters and artisans from bringing their own twist to the trend. Pokemon has received creations in all kinds of styles and involving intense training, with metalworkers, woodworkers, and even stained glass artists building tributes to their favorite creatures from the long-running series. The COO of The Pokemon Company wants the Pokemon series to continue for hundreds of years, so fans may be seeing even more spectacular creations coming to life for generations to come.
