GAMM Is the Biggest Game Museum in Italy Where You Can Share Pieces of Game History

Rome's newest attraction: GAMM, the Game Museum! A sprawling 700-square-meter space, GAMM is now open to the public in Piazza della Repubblica. The brainchild of Marco Accordi Rickards (writer, journalist, professor, and CEO of Vigamus), this museum represents a passion project dedicated to preserving and celebrating video game history. Rickards describes GAMM as a captivating journey blending historical context, technological innovation, and immersive gameplay exploration.

GAMM builds upon the legacy of Vigamus, another successful Roman gaming museum that has welcomed over two million visitors since 2012. The new museum boasts three distinct thematic areas across two levels:

Explore GAMM's Thrilling Zones:

  • GAMMDOME: An interactive digital playground featuring historical gaming artifacts (consoles, donations, etc.) alongside engaging interactive stations. The experience is built around the 4 E Concept: Experience, Exhibition, Education, and Entertainment.

  • Path of Arcadia (PARC): A nostalgic trip back to the golden age of arcade gaming, showcasing classic coin-op games from the late 1970s through the 1980s, with a touch of early '90s nostalgia.

  • Historical Playground (HIP): Delve into the mechanics of game design. This area offers a behind-the-scenes look at game structure, interaction mechanics, and design principles, providing a unique perspective on gaming history.

Visiting GAMM:

GAMM is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and Fridays and Saturdays until 11:30 PM. Tickets cost 15 euros. For more information, visit the official GAMM website.
