Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its anticipated FPS title, Deadrop.

In an X post, the studio stated, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." The announcement included a plea for job opportunities for its talented team members.

The studio, comprised of Beahm alongside Call of Duty and Halo veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, aimed to deliver a free-to-play FPS experience, Deadrop, leveraging their collective expertise. While targeting a 2024 release, the game ultimately failed to meet its launch window.

Following Dr. Disrespect's departure from Midnight Society in 2024 due to controversy surrounding inappropriate messages sent via Twitch Whispers, development on Deadrop continued until the recent studio closure.

Deadrop was envisioned within a unique, retro-futuristic setting described as "the 80s never ended." Promotional materials showcased characters sporting Daft Punk-inspired helmets, wielding both firearms and melee weapons, within a PvPvE extraction shooter framework.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of game studios facing challenges and restructuring within the current industry climate. This difficult period has already impacted major players such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs, among many others.
