Firaxis will change Civilization 7 after a barrage of criticism

Following a less-than-stellar launch, the creators of Civilization VII are committed to significant improvements. Firaxis Games has acknowledged player feedback concerning the user interface and gameplay, and is actively developing solutions.

Currently holding a 47% positive rating on Steam, the game's criticism centers not on core mechanics, but on a simplified interface, missing features, and a perceived lack of content. In response, Firaxis has prioritized interface enhancements, focusing on improved map readability, refined menus, and a more intuitive overall experience.

Upcoming additions include:

  • Multiplayer team functionality;
  • New map types;
  • Customization options (renaming religions and cities).

A balance update (1.1.0) with further improvements is scheduled for release in March, while the full game launches February 11th.

Many reviewers believe the game was released prematurely and requires substantial further development. The $70 price point has been particularly criticized as not reflecting the game's current state. To recapture the series' former glory, fans eagerly await updates addressing these concerns and incorporating player feedback.

Civilization enthusiasts hope the seventh installment will eventually live up to the series' established reputation for excellence and meticulous detail—a goal currently unmet by the initial release.
