Dragon Quest 12 Information to Be Revealed 'Little by Little,' Series Creator Yuji Horii Says

Dragon Quest XII: Development Update and Continued Assurance

Series creator Yuji Horii recently provided a reassuring update on the development of Dragon Quest XII during a livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku. According to Automaton, Horii confirmed that the Square Enix team is diligently working on the game.

This marks the first official update since May 2024, following the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama (character designer) and Koichi Sugiyama (composer). The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division had also fueled speculation.

Recent restructuring at Square Enix and a period without updates had led to fan concerns about the game's status. However, Horii's statement effectively confirms that Dragon Quest XII remains in active development, albeit with information being released gradually.

Announced as part of the franchise's 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. The recent success of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, exceeding sales expectations with over 2 million copies sold, further underscores the ongoing strength of the series.
