Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Reportedly Exits BioWare

by Ava Mar 19,2025

Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly leaving BioWare, an EA-owned studio. Eurogamer reports her departure, expected in the coming weeks, follows the game's launch last October. While questions remain about The Veilguard's commercial success, Eurogamer states Busche's exit is unrelated to its performance. EA is yet to comment on sales figures, with Q3 2025 financial results expected February 4th. BioWare has confirmed no DLC is planned for The Veilguard, shifting focus to Mass Effect 5.

Busche, who joined BioWare in 2019 after working on The Sims at Maxis, played a crucial role in guiding The Veilguard to completion during its final development stages. This followed a significant project overhaul, transforming it from a multiplayer concept into a single-player RPG. Her departure follows previous upheaval at BioWare, including approximately 50 layoffs in August 2023, impacting veteran staff like narrative designer Mary Kirby. These layoffs coincided with broader restructuring at EA, splitting the company into sports and other divisions, and rumors of a potential BioWare acquisition. The decision to allow Star Wars: The Old Republic to become third-party was also made around this time, ostensibly to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard (formerly Dreadwolf) in 2024 initially drew negative reactions, prompting BioWare to quickly release gameplay footage to appease fans. Despite initial concerns, subsequent impressions were generally positive. The future of the Dragon Age franchise remains uncertain, leaving fans questioning whether BioWare will be given the opportunity to develop a sequel.
