Dishonored 2 Receives Surprise Update after Nine Years

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on Multiple Platforms

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, has received an unexpected small update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This minor patch appears focused on bug fixes and language file updates. The update's size is relatively small (230MB), although Xbox users report needing a full 40GB re-download.

Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored 2 and the recent Deathloop, is currently occupied with development of Marvel's Blade. This update arrives amidst speculation surrounding a potential 60 FPS patch, a feature notably absent from Dishonored 2 despite being present in other Arkane titles. The lack of a performance boost is a source of disappointment for many fans. While Prey and even the standalone Dishonored: Death of the Outsider benefit from enhanced performance on newer consoles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. A future 60 FPS update, perhaps timed with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, remains a possibility, though its likelihood is uncertain.

The update's release also coincides with ongoing discussions about a potential third mainline Dishonored game. However, given the recent closure of Arkane Austin (developers of the original Dishonored and Redfall) and Arkane Lyon's current commitment to Marvel's Blade, a new Dishonored title seems distant at best. The future of the franchise remains uncertain.
