DCs’ James Gunn plan to rule the comic movies world
The DC Universe is undergoing a significant transformation. Past financial struggles, inconsistent storytelling, and a lack of cohesive planning have led to a major leadership change, ushering in a new era under James Gunn. Gunn, known for his ability to revitalize lesser-known characters, has already demonstrated his success with *Creature Commandos*, and now he's spearheading a bold new vision for the DCU.

Superman: Legacy
Release Date: July 11, 2025
Kicking off the new DCU is *Superman: Legacy*, written and directed by James Gunn. This film will feature a younger Superman navigating a world already populated with superheroes. The cast includes David Corenswet as Kal-El, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabel Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. Milly Alcock is also rumored to be joining the cast as Supergirl.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Release Date: June 26, 2026
James Gunn describes *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* as a darker, grittier take on the character. This adaptation will focus on Supergirl's harsh upbringing on a fragment of Krypton, where she witnessed immense destruction and suffering before arriving on Earth. Milly Alcock stars as Supergirl, with Matthias Schoenaerts cast as Krem of the Yellow Hills, a significant antagonist from the source material. Tom King, the creator of the original comic, has praised Alcock's casting.
Clayface
Release Date: September 11, 2026
Following the success of HBO's *The Penguin*, DC Studios is developing a Clayface film, with Mike Flanagan directing from a script he wrote. The character's long history in comics, spanning decades and multiple interpretations, offers a rich source for this new cinematic adaptation.
The Batman Part II
Release Date: October 1, 2027
Matt Reeves is currently working on the script for *The Batman Part II*. The film's release has been pushed back to October 1, 2027, allowing for a more deliberate and refined approach to the sequel's production.
The Brave and the Bold
This film will present a different Batman than the one seen in Reeves' films, focusing on Batman's relationship with his son, Damian Wayne (Robin). Director Andy Muschietti has stated that the film's release date will be carefully considered to avoid clashing with *The Batman Part II*.
Swamp Thing
James Mangold will direct this adaptation of *Swamp Thing*. Mangold has indicated a desire to create a more intimate, horror-focused story, distinct from the larger interconnectedness of the DCU.
The Authority
While a release date for *The Authority* hasn't been announced, audiences will get a glimpse of the team through María Gabriela de Faría's portrayal of Angela Spica in *Superman: Legacy*. The film will draw inspiration from the original comics, known for their morally complex characters.
Sgt. Rock
Following his appearance in *Creature Commandos*, Sgt. Rock is set to star in his own film. Luca Guadagnino is attached to direct, with Daniel Craig potentially in talks to star. This adaptation promises a fresh take on the classic World War II character.
