DC Comic's Superman Returns, Slott at Helm

by Oliver Feb 20,2025

DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, marking the return of Marvel veteran Dan Slott to DC. Slott, renowned for his work on Marvel titles like The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, will be writing the series. While he previously contributed to DC, this marks his return after a two-decade Marvel exclusivity.

The series pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott describes the series as exploring Superman's inner strength alongside his incredible powers, promising a monthly escape for readers. He aims to deliver fresh ideas for Superman, Lois Lane, supporting characters, classic villains, and new adversaries, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers.

Superman Unlimited introduces a perilous new reality. A Kryptonite asteroid shower leaves the planet saturated with Green K, empowering enemies like Intergang with Kryptonite-enhanced weaponry. This compels Superman to develop innovative technology and combat strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global multimedia giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.

DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares the series' impact to Superman/Batman by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness, promising grand-scale adventures while significantly impacting the broader DC Superman universe with the introduction of a massive Kryptonite deposit. He envisions a world where even petty crimes are amplified by Kryptonite-infused weaponry, presenting unprecedented challenges for Superman and his allies. Kaminski highlights the contrast with the Justice League Unlimited series, emphasizing Superman Unlimited's focus on super-villains empowered by the widespread Green K.

A 10-page prelude story will launch in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 on May 3, 2025, followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding the July 11 release of James Gunn's Superman film.
