Who is Danny Dyer and Why is Rockstar Posting About His Latest Movie?

by Jonathan Mar 19,2025

Rockstar Games' recent X post promoting the film Marching Powder and its star, Danny Dyer, likely left many scratching their heads. Why would a studio with 21 million followers promote a relatively small British film? Let's delve into the unexpected connection.

Who is Danny Dyer?

Daniel John Dyer, or Danny Dyer as he's better known, is a prominent East London actor. In the UK, he's a household name, a true "legend" in British slang terms – a funny, original, and relatable figure. Since 1993, he's built a career playing working-class characters, a persona mirrored by his outspoken public image and "tough uncle" demeanor. His candid social media presence further solidifies this image, filled with memorable posts like this gem from 2013: "Roll on bonfire night..........it's gonna get strapped to a great big massive fuck off Rocket so it can join the other Furbys in the sky..."

Danny Dyer's Rockstar Connection

While many may not know Dyer, Grand Theft Auto fans will recognize his voice. He voiced Kent Paul, manager of the fictional band Love Fist, in GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas. However, a deeper connection exists: Dyer starred in The Football Factory, a 2004 British film produced by Rockstar Games. This film, directed by Nick Love, marked a foray into feature film production for the gaming giant.

Marching Powder, Dyer and Love's latest collaboration, shares thematic similarities with The Football Factory, exploring football hooliganism, heavy drinking, and drug use with a distinctly British sense of humor. Rockstar's X post, therefore, appears to be a show of support for the project due to their prior collaboration with Dyer and Love on The Football Factory, rather than any direct involvement with Marching Powder.

Kent Paul's Return in GTA 6?

The possibility of Kent Paul returning in GTA 6 is purely speculative. The Grand Theft Auto universe is divided into distinct 3D and HD eras, with separate storylines. While crossovers exist (e.g., Grove Street's appearance in GTA 5), a direct continuation of PS2-era characters isn't guaranteed. Kent Paul's name on the Vinewood Walk of Fame suggests a potential cameo, but the X post offers no confirmation.
