Captain America: Brave New World Projected to Beat Estimates With $100 Million Domestic Box Office Over Presidents Day Weekend

Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World has exceeded expectations, raking in an estimated $88.5 million domestically over the Presidents Day weekend from 4,105 theaters. Comscore projects a four-day total exceeding $100 million. Adding an impressive $92.4 million from international markets, the film's global weekend haul is estimated at $192.4 million.

While boasting a $180 million production budget and a break-even point of roughly $425 million globally (according to Deadline), Captain America: Brave New World has secured the fourth-best Presidents Day opening weekend, trailing only Black Panther ($242 million), Deadpool ($152 million), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($120 million).

This strong opening arrives despite mixed critical reception. IGN's review, for example, awarded the film a 5/10, stating, “Captain America: Brave New World feels neither brave, nor all that new, falling short of strong performances from Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Carl Lumbly.”

The film's long-term performance will be crucial in determining if it can reverse a recent downturn for MCU films (excluding last year's successful Deadpool & Wolverine), setting the stage for Thunderbolts in May and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July.
