The Hollow Knight community has once again been swept up in a whirlwind of speculation, sparked by the actions of one of the game's creators, William Pellen, on Twitter (X) around the time of the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025.

On January 15, Pellen teased fans with a tweet stating, "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This cryptic message was likely a nod to the anticipated Switch 2 reveal the following day. Naturally, this led to renewed questions about the release of Silksong. However, it was Pellen's subsequent actions that truly ignited the fanbase's speculation.

On the day of the Switch 2 announcement, January 16, 2025, which also revealed an upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025, fans noticed that Pellen had changed his Twitter profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed that the image was from a Bon Appetit article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024.

Pellen's comment on the article, "mmmm tasty," further fueled speculation. Dedicated fans delved into the comments section, where discussions about Silksong intertwined with cake reviews. One fan boldly stated, "if we get real silksong news by April 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake." Another fan praised the cake's "silky texture," cleverly linking it to the game and the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

While it's impossible to confirm if Pellen himself commented on the cake recipe article, his choice of profile picture is undeniable. Whether this is a deliberate hint or simply a playful tease remains a mystery.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced on February 14, 2019, with plans to launch on multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. As a sequel to the beloved Hollow Knight, Silksong follows the journey of Hornet in a new kingdom dominated by silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry offered a glimpse into the game's development by previewing its soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin. Following this, the team went quiet for over two years.

The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still in development, promising more information as the release date approached. Later that year, in June, Team Cherry unveiled a new trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, showcasing fresh gameplay and confirming the game's availability on Game Pass upon launch.

Originally slated for a 2023 release, Team Cherry's representative Matthew Griffin announced a delay in May 2023, stating, "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

Despite the delay, the Hollow Knight community remains vibrant and engaged, actively participating in forums and eagerly seeking any updates on Silksong. While official information has been scarce since the delay announcement, the dedication of the fanbase continues to fuel hope and speculation.
