On January 15, Pellen teased fans with a tweet stating, "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This cryptic message was likely a nod to the anticipated Switch 2 reveal the following day. Naturally, this led to renewed questions about the release of Silksong. However, it was Pellen's subsequent actions that truly ignited the fanbase's speculation.

On the day of the Switch 2 announcement, January 16, 2025, which also revealed an upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025, fans noticed that Pellen had changed his Twitter profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed that the image was from a Bon Appetit article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024.

Pellen's comment on the article, "mmmm tasty," further fueled speculation. Dedicated fans delved into the comments section, where discussions about Silksong intertwined with cake reviews. Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced on February 14, 2019, with plans to launch on multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. As a sequel to the beloved Hollow Knight, Silksong follows the journey of Hornet in a new kingdom dominated by silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry offered a glimpse into the game's development by previewing its soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin. Following this, the team went quiet for over two years.

The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still in development, promising more information as the release date approached.
