Assassin's Creed Shadows' Release Date Shifted to March 20, 2025

Ubisoft has announced another delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing the release date back to March 20, 2025. Initially slated for a February 14th launch, this marks a five-week postponement from the previously announced date. The publisher cites the need for further refinement and polishing, incorporating player feedback as a key driver for the decision.

The game's journey to release has been marked by delays. A significant three-month postponement in late September 2024 shifted the launch from November 15th to February 14th. While the initial delay was attributed to unspecified reasons described as being "in the best interest of the game," subsequent reports hinted at challenges related to historical and cultural accuracy within the game's development at Ubisoft Quebec.

This latest delay, however, directly addresses player feedback. Marc-Alexis Coté, Vice President and Executive Producer of the Assassin's Creed franchise, emphasized Ubisoft's commitment to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience, fueled by ongoing player-developer communication. He reiterated that the extra time will allow for crucial refinement and polishing.

Release Date: March 20, 2025

Following the September delay, Ubisoft offered pre-order refunds and promised free access to the game's first expansion for future pre-orders. Whether similar incentives will accompany this shorter delay remains unannounced. The shorter timeframe might mitigate potential player dissatisfaction compared to the previous three-month postponement.

This additional delay may also be linked to Ubisoft's internal investigation into its development practices, launched to improve player focus and address recent financial setbacks. The company experienced record losses in its 2023 fiscal year, prompting this internal review aimed at making its games more "player-centric." Incorporating fan feedback through this delay could be a direct result of this initiative.
